You’ve, no doubt, heard the term “Stockholm Syndrome” before. In fact, people know the term so well and can probably give you the definition, but actually, don’t know exactly where the phrase originated from. In the first trailer for the film, we see that “Stockholm” is based on the true story of a 1973 bank robbery in Stockholm, Sweden that would lead to a psychological expert to coin the phrase “Stockholm Syndrome” as the hostages began to show sympathy for their captors. The film stars Ethan Hawke as the robber and Rapace as one of the bank tellers that becomes his hostage.
Written and directed by Robert Budreau, who previously worked with Hawke on the film “Born to be Blue,” the latest film looks to combine the intensity of a bank robbery film with the comedy and strangeness of the true story that inspired it. As Hawke plays up the Americana aspect of his character to the fullest degree, leading to some comical lines and a clear indication that the actor was having fun every second of shooting this film.
