The signal-to-noise ratio between things that are popular on social media, and how that translates into actual metrics, can often be difficult to discern. And so, while everyone has been talking non-stop about “Stranger Things” since July, it’s been hard to grasp if the show was just internet famous, or truly a phenomenon that has captured the attention of Netflix subscribers and beyond. And given that the streaming service keeps their data under lock and key, it’s been hard to parse, but it appears, “Stranger Things” is truly a monster.
A start-up called SymphonyAM claims to have cracked to the code on tracking Netflix viewership (with the company contending their intel is off base), and according to their numbers, presented by Business Insider, “Stranger Things” is the biggest series to launch on the service ever.

In its first 16 days, the show earned 8.2 million views, putting it behind only “Fuller House” and “Orange Is The New Black” season four in terms of debut numbers. And the figure places it well ahead of “Daredevil” season two (6.8 million), “Making A Murderer” (5.1 million), “Jessica Jones” (4.8 million), and “House Of Cards” season four (4.7 million). Again, these aren’t Netflix approved numbers, but since they’ll never release those, it’s all we have to go on at this point.
Basically, the show is crazy popular any way you slice it, and if you haven’t seen it already, change that situation as fast as you can.
