“Arrival” lands in cinemas today, and you don’t need to us to tell you (again) that it’s terrific, and one of the year’s best movies. Much of the film’s success goes to the clever script by Eric Heisserer, the terrific performances by Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner, and an overall approach that places emotion and smarts ahead of spectacle. But there’s also the score by Jóhann Jóhannsson, who has reunited with director Denis Villeneuve following “Prisoners” and “Sicario,” and delivered another astonishing set of music.

Jóhannsson’s score manages to be both foreboding and tinged with wonder, perfectly complimenting the film which itself balances between those two feelings. And bookending it all is Max Richter‘s “On The Nature Of Daylight,” which opens and closes the movie in two different versions (played by a string quartet and full orchestra), providing a lovely musical spine to the picture.
Jóhannsson’s “Arrival” score is available starting today, and you can stream it below. Richter’s “On The Nature Of Daylight” will be re-released on 12″ vinyl on December 16th, but you can listen to that below as well.
