With iPhones able to shoot feature film quality movies, and almost any able to get their hands on the tools they need to make a picture, anybody can become a director. However, making a movie that can stand out from the pack still requires talent and skill that you can’t buy off a shelf. It’s not every day that a filmmaker like David Fincher shouts out a short film, but the again, it’s not every day that a director like Neville Pierce comes along.
Today, a trio of shorts by Pierce have hit Vimeo, and we’re thrilled to exclusively debut “Bricks.” Starring Jason Flemyng and Blake Ritson, it’s an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Cask Of Amontillado,” and follows a stockbroker named William who hires builder Clive to renovate his wine cellar. The two men couldn’t be more different, but in the shadowy cellar they find common ground… at first.
“Bricks” made an impression in all the right places, winning the Méliès d’Argent at the Abertoir Film Festival, and kudos from Fincher who called it, “A morbid yet classy take on a morbid classic. Sure-footed, tidy work.”
Joining “Bricks” on Vimeo today are also “Ghosted” starring Alice Lowe, and “Lock In” with Lucy Boynton. All of ’em are worth your time, and you can start with “Bricks.”
