Israeli filmmaker Eytan Fox returns with a new look at the LGBTQ+ experience. “Sublet” showcases how one person’s personal tragedies can transform their entire world; it also serves as a tale balanced by the constructs of generational perceptions. The film premiered as part of the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival. Since then, the project played at the Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival, Vancouver Jewish Film Festival, BFI Flare London LGBTQ+ Film Festival, and Golden Horse Fantastic Film Festival.

Fox established himself among the international film community thanks to titles that cover both societal and personal perspectives. “Yossi & Jagger” and “The Bubble” stand out as selections that carry his strongest storytelling perspectives. In each case, the director relies on quality performances to propel the narrative. “Sublet” sees Fox once again utilize the talent to achieve prestigious results. John Benjamin Hickey and Niv Nissim co-star in the project. Theater and TV veteran Hickey puts his talents to good use as a man facing not only time but the ravages of tragedy. Nissim, in his first feature film role, offers a fresh approach to the material. For each actor, a theater background pays off when presented with dialogue-driven scenes.

Writer Itay Segal returns to work once again with the director. They previously teamed up for the Israeli series “Good Family.” The popular title saw the writing team dig into the concepts of what it means to be in a relationship versus the prospects of casual sex.
