There’s a saying that you have to spend money to make money, but in this scenario, we’d argue Warner Bros. is doing whatever it takes it keep up with the runaway comic book franchise train that is Marvel. And the proof is in the star-laden cast for "Suicide Squad," which has now been made official.
Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto are officially lined up, with Jai Courtney and Cara Delevingne also on board the David Ayer-directed movie. But one name you won’t find? Jesse Eisenberg. While there was chatter that he would reprise his role from "Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice" as Lex Luthor, THR says the actor is "not part of the official team, nor the official cast." But of course, actors are usually signed up for multiple movies, and a cameo isn’t out of the question either.
So, who is playing who? Let’s line it up: Will Smith is the defacto leader Deadshot, Tom Hardy is Rick Flagg, as was previously reported Jared Leto plays the Joker, Margot Robbie is Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney will be Boomerang, with Cara Delevingne as Enchantress. And oh, there’s more: Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Oprah Winfrey are all being eyed for villain Amanda Waller, according to Variety, with the talk show mogul the "first choice."
"Suicide Squad" arrives on August 5, 2016.
