“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”
Nearly 85 years to the day since J. R. R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” was first released, Prime Video is giving us a prequel to the beloved universe. The nine-episode “The Rings of Power” stars Nazanin Bondiadi, Peter Mullan, Benjamin Walker, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Morfydd Clark, and Robert Aramayo.
Premiere Date: September 2 on Prime Video.
SUMMER TBD
“Love & Death”
This is the second show on this list to be based on the true story of Candy Montgomery’s murder of Betty Gore in 1980. The series revolves around two church-going couples “enjoying small-town family life in Texas until someone picks up an ax.” In this telling of the story, Elizabeth Olson stars as the ax-wielding housewife alongside Jesse Plemons, Lily Rabe, Patrick Fugit, Keir Gilchrist, Elizabeth Marvel, Tom Pelphrey, and Krysten Ritter.
Premiere Date: TBD on HBO Max and it’s also possible it arrives in the fall, but footage. and images have been teased for months now and it’s likely just trying to distance itself a bit from Hulu’s “Candy.”
