While “Pariah” director Dee Rees released the HBO movie “Bessie” last year, we’ve been patiently awaiting for her return to the big screen, and it’s coming at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. And not only that, the filmmaker will be bringing some major stars in tow.
Carey Mulligan, Jason Clarke, Mary J. Blige, Rob Morgan, Jason Mitchell, and Garrett Hedlund star in “Mudbound,” a drama based on the book Hillary Jordan, that takes place against the backdrop of racially charged South in the years following World War II. Here’s the synopsis:
In the post–World War II South, two families are pitted against a barbaric social hierarchy and an unrelenting landscape as they simultaneously fight the battle at home and the battle abroad. This epic pioneer story is about friendship, heritage and the unending struggle for and against the land.
The Sundance Film Festival runs from January 19-29, 2017.
