The soundtrack for “Sunshine Cleaning,” comes out tomorrow, March 10, via Lakeshore records and as previously reported features a score by Michael Penn (“American Teen,” “Boogie Nights,” “Hard Eight,” “Last Kiss”).
The soundtrack also features songs by motorik-inspired British indie rock band Electrelane, alt-country-ish supergroup Golden Smog, and long-defunct, but much-beloved (and criminally underappreciated) Canadian psychedelic indie pop group, Bodega. Their track, “Barcelona,” comes from their 2002 record, Without A Plan, which was produced by David Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, Sparklehorse, Mercury Rev). It’s worth picking up for that track alone (they’re not to be confused with the Scottish band; we wish we had some music onhand with us, but alas, we don’t).
We’ve been seeing Bodega songs pop up in random commercials and small indie films here and there recently. Maybe a revival (or an arrival since they came and went) is due.
“Sunshine Cleaning” stars Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, Alan Arkin, Steve Vaughn and comes out in limited release this Friday March 13 via Overture Films. Our screening is tonight. We’ll hopefully tell you more later in the week. In the meantime, here’s the trailer and deeper info.
