“I certainly think this is worth pondering because it’s intriguing to find the whys and wherefores of how people have come to become what they are,” he said. “The traumas, the loss and the tragedy of being in Vietnam would certainly be a great challenge for a young actor and it would be ironic that Rambo directs younger Rambo after having played it for 20 plus years.”
Look, we understand that some people really, really dig the John Rambo character, but there isn’t much material here for a solid movie. The quality of the most recent movie not withstanding, we already know everything we need to know about Rambo from “First Blood.” Hell, the film cuts to a flashback of him being tortured in Vietnam. The horrors of the Vietnam war are well-represented in the original film, and there’s little reason to visit them again with the iconic action hero as a young’n.
Whether anybody actually likes it or not, we wouldn’t put it past the actor to attempt another Rambo film, prequel or not. The latest “Rambo” pulled in $100 million worldwide, people like to watch shit blow up real good, and apparently Stallone’s forthcoming brawny effort “The Expendables” is apparently tracking very well. So if Stallone can deliver the brutal gore and badassery of the last “Rambo”film, and put in the context of the Vietnam War (and really, it’s probably not that hard) he could very well have yet another success.
The testosterone and bicep bulging “The Expendables” opens on August 13th.
