Guillermo Del Toro is known by many as the director responsible for some of the most visually stunning horror and fantasy films of the last 20 years. The creatures that he’s featured in films like “Hellboy” and “Pan’s Labyrinth” are iconic, and the filmmaker routinely pays tribute the legends that have come before and influenced his work. And so, it’s perhaps not surprising he has an entire home dedicated to all things freaky, and Andy Richter of “Conan” was likely enough to step aside and take a tour.
Featuring props, paintings, and much more from various horror, sci-fi, and comic-book films, Bleak House is absolutely packed to capacity. With so many artifacts laying around in every nook and cranny, it’s almost like watching an incredibly expensive and beautiful episode of “Hoarders.”
Perhaps the creepiest aspect of the entire house is Del Toro’s life-size assortment of replicas of famous writers and film characters. Edgar Allan Poe, H.P. Lovecraft, and characters from the movie “Freaks” are sitting in chairs, waiting in hallways, and generally around every corner. Their detail is as impressive as you’d expect from a film director known for his incredible practical effects work.
Sadly, not all the rooms are filled with the macabre items. As Richter points out, the kitchen is sadly just “boring.” The clip ends on a high note as Richter and Del Toro decide what to watch on TV with their guest, a life-sized Linda Blair, in all her “Exorcist” glory.
