After the box office success of “Taken 2,” director Olivier Megaton is breaking away from Luc Besson and coming to America. Deadline is reporting that the awesomely-named French helmer has signed up to direct the modestly-budgeted action thriller “Taking Gotham.”
Based on an actual events with a script by author and “Blue Bloods” writer Thomas Kelly, the film centers on “on a secret unit of the NYPD that was created in response to a string of brutal robberies in New York City. After a deadly sting operation, the elite unit is disavowed by the NYPD, forcing them to go deep underground to clear their names.” So, “The A-Team” by way of a police procedural?
This isn’t a huge departure for the “Colombiana” director, he cut his teeth on similarly moderately-budgeted action films for Besson, starting with “Transporter 3.” Though there’s no release date set, casting is set to “begin immediately” with what we assume will be a quick shooting schedule.
