'Taken 2' Director Olivier Megaton Will Be 'Taking Gotham'

nullAfter the box office success of “Taken 2,” director Olivier Megaton is breaking away from Luc Besson and coming to America. Deadline is reporting that the awesomely-named French helmer has signed up to direct the modestly-budgeted action thriller “Taking Gotham.”

Based on an actual events with a script by author and “Blue Bloods” writer Thomas Kelly, the film centers on “on a secret unit of the NYPD that was created in response to a string of brutal robberies in New York City. After a deadly sting operation, the elite unit is disavowed by the NYPD, forcing them to go deep underground to clear their names.” So, “The A-Team” by way of a police procedural?

This isn’t a huge departure for the “Colombiana” director, he cut his teeth on similarly moderately-budgeted action films for Besson, starting with “Transporter 3.” Though there’s no release date set, casting is set to “begin immediately” with what we assume will be a quick shooting schedule.
