Laura Linney is one of the most respected actors of the last couple of decades. She’s probably best known for her roles in films like “Primal Fear,” “The Truman Show,” “Mystic River,” and “Kinsey,” among others. However, one of her first roles is being revisited on Netflix, in the new series “Tales of the City.”
Back in 1993, Linney starred as Mary Ann Singleton in the first adaptation of author Armistead Maupin’s famous novel series “Tales of the City.” The story followed Mary Ann and the residents of 28 Barbary Lane, in San Francisco, as they deal with everything life throws at them, while also exploring issues of sexuality and race. This miniseries was followed by two more series, in 1998 and 2001, respectively. Now, Linney returns yet again for Netflix’s sequel, simply titled “Tales of the City.”
The series stars Linney, Ellen Page, Zosia Mamet, and Olympia Dukakis. “Tales of the City” is written by Lauren Morelli, who also serves as the showrunner for this new series. She’s probably best known as one of the writers on the Netflix series “Orange is the New Black.”
“Tales of the City” hits Netflix on June 7.
Here’s the synopsis:

Mary Ann (Laura Linney) returns to present-day San Francisco and is reunited with her daughter Shawna (Ellen Page) and ex-husband Brian (Paul Gross), twenty years after leaving them behind to pursue her career. Fleeing the midlife crisis that her picture-perfect Connecticut life created, Mary Ann is quickly drawn back into the orbit of Anna Madrigal (Olympia Dukakis), her chosen family and a new generation of queer young residents living at 28 Barbary Lane.
