Tarsem, the man behind movies “The Cell,” “The Fall” and “Immortals,” has always had bold visuals to with his ambitious films, but the ends results always seem to fall just a little short. He’s a master stylist to be certain, and even something like the somewhat absurd-sounding “Selfless” opens the door to plenty of opportunities for creativity.
The director is teaming with Ryan Reynolds for picture, penned by Alex and David Pastor (“Carriers“). And strap in, because this premise is a little loopy. The thriller would find an older wealthy man, transplanting his mind into the body of younger person. The twist? Turns out the younger body was murdered, and now he has to go on the run from the killers who offed him in the first place, while trying to sort it all out. Umm….yeah….it will at least look good, right?
For Reynolds, it’s another move to work with an auteur, having recently completed filming on Atom Egoyan‘s procedural “Queen Of The Night,” and currently shooting Marjane Satrapi‘s “The Voices.” But it’s not quite clear when this might roll. Tarsem is also currently attached to shoot “Marco Polo” with Gong Li, but not much has been heard about that one in a while. [Deadline]
