Tatiana Maslany Says There's Only One "Logical" Reason For An 'Orphan Black' Return

Actress Tatiana Maslany is best known for her Emmy-winning role (or roles) on the popular show “Orphan Black.” While starring in the series, Maslany portrayed various characters, each more unique than the next. All told, the series had Maslany playing seven or more roles at a time. Her performance was widely lauded but it wasn’t until 2016, following the show’s fourth season, that Maslany finally took home the Emmy. Now, with reboots and belated sequels being the order of the industry, some are wondering if Maslany would ever consider reprising her role(s).

According to Variety, the actress is very intrigued by the idea of returning, but there’s a catch. Speaking to Variety’s Stagecraft podcast, Maslany said, “[Creator] John Fawcett joked at one point that when I’m like 70, we’re gonna do like a reunion special…So all the characters will be in an old age home. I’m up for that. That is logical to me. Something too soon doesn’t make sense. Let’s see when they’re geriatric!” It’s quite the interesting catch. But with a show like “Orphan Black” that revolved around storylines of conspiracy theories, the show would work this into something just as interesting and entertaining.

On a more serious note, there is no real confirmation that Maslany, or any of the cast, would return for a reboot of the show any time soon. Maslany is currently making her New York stage debut in Second Stage Theater’s Off Broadway production of Tracy Letts’ “Mary Page Marlowe.” This time around, the actress is switching things up. As opposed to taking on a number of characters for one project, the title role is divvied up between a group of actresses. Each playing the role at a different time in the character’s life. Maslany portrays Mary Page when the character is in her 20s and 30s.

It’s a shame that Maslany’s acclaimed work on “Orphan Black” hasn’t yet opened her career up to bigger opportunities. At one point, Maslany was up for the lead role in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” but was not made an offer. She previously had tested for Rian Johnson‘s Episode VIII, but didn’t receive an offer there either. Clearly, some people are thinking about her for high profile projects. The actress will revisit the big screen this year with the film “Destroyer” co-starring Sebastian Stan and Nicole Kidman. We’ll have to see what happens in the future for Maslany. Let’s just hope that we really don’t have to wait until she’s geriatric for studios to figure out how talented she is.
