“The Tender Bar” has a script written by “The Departed” scribe William Monahan and is based on a memoir from J.R. Moehringer. The film focuses on a young man that habitually seeks out father figures among the patrons at his uncle’s Long Island bar. Ben Affleck is said to be playing the bar owning uncle with Tye Sheridan set in the role of Moehringer, his impressionable young nephew.
Sheridan originally gained notoriety working opposite Matthew McConaughey in the film “Mud” and starring as a child in Terrence Malick‘s “The Tree Of Life,” alongside Brad Pitt. Many leading roles would follow in the “X-Men” franchise and Steven Spielberg’s “Ready Player One.” There is even talk from author Ernest Cline that a feature film sequel is in early development based on his book “Ready Player Two.”

George Clooney will be reuniting with cinematographer Martin Ruhe on the Long Island drama, after working with him on the Hulu WWII series “Catch-22” and his latest feature film “The Midnight Sky.” Affleck was most recently seen in the sports drama “The Way Back,” a film that mirrored the actor’s own struggles with alcohol. Up next for the actor, starring roles in the erotic thriller “Deep Water” with former girlfriend Ana de Armas, the Ridley Scott period drama “The Last Duel,” and Robert Rodriguez‘s crime flick “Hypnotic.” It’s unclear when cameras will roll on “The Tender Bar.” [THR]
