“Terminator Salvation,” McG’s fourth entry into the now withering franchise, was received by fanboys with a collective shrug this summer. However, in the lead up to the theatrical release McG got in a very public battle (which he later downplayed) with the studio over the film’s final rating.
He also became disturbingly obsessed with Moon Bloodgood’s breasts which he really wanted to put in the final film, however, the studio won out and McG delivered a PG-13 cut that nixed the nudity and excessive blood. That turned out to be a wise idea as the film only brought in $125 million on a budget of $200 million falling far below its blockbuster aspirations. Who knows what that number might’ve looked like with an R-rating.
Well McG will get his wish in the end, and WB another stab at making sure this film breaks even, as BluRay.com confirms that the forthcoming video release of the film will be R-rated. While this pretty much ensures an appearance Bloodgood’s boobs and a few more seconds of gore, what isn’t confirmed are the 30-40 minutes of deleted scenes and alternate ending that McG previously boasted about. But one thing we can guarantee is that Christian Bale’s now infamous on-set rant won’t be on the disc, though James Lipton’s take is a more than adequate substitution.
