Terry Gilliam Thinks The "Heath Ledger For Oscar" Campaign Is Retarded; WB Publicity Stunt/Conspiracy

Shameless, you’re all shameless. At least that’s what director Terry Gilliam thinks. The American ex-pat filmmaker directed Heath Ledger in – “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” – his last role before he death.

And he believes all the yahoos espousing the: “Heath Ledger should win an posthumous Oscar for his work as the Joker in ‘The Dark Knight’ ” talk are shameless.

Naturally, he also thinks it’s a Warner Bros. conspiracy. “That’s what Warner Brothers are saying, but they’ll do anything to publicize their film. That’s just what they do and you can’t get upset because it’s bullshit. They’re like a great white shark which devours whatever it can.”

After Ledger’s death, Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell were all brought it to play his unfinished role in various incarnations, but either way Gilliam’s going to inadvertently reap the benefits of having Ledger’s final film appearance in his picture (and the way Gilliam pictures are going these days, he could probably stand to have that help). But Gilliam, take note even Christian Bale says, Ledger “steals the movie.”
