Studio Cuts Directors Of 'Texas Chainsaw' Reboot After Just A Week In Production

Texas is pretty well known for its chainsaw massacres. Over the decades, there have been quite a few of them caught on film, all beginning with the classic Tobe Hooper film from 1974. And even though the latest massacre happened in Bulgaria and not Texas, the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” franchise finds itself in trouble once again.

According to Deadline, filming of the forthcoming “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” sequel, produced by Fede Alvarez and Legendary, is about to take a one-week hiatus as the film ditches its current directors just a week into production. Taking a cue from the 2018 “Halloween” reboot, the upcoming ‘Chainsaw’ sequel was picking up directly from the events of Hooper’s original film and was just beginning production in Bulgaria with filmmakers Andy and Ryan Tohill. However, after watching the work that was done over the first week, Legendary has decided to let go of the Tohills due to “creative differences” and take a week off before starting over with new filmmaker, David Blue Garcia.

And they really are starting over, with the report claiming that the production will completely start fresh with the new filmmaker and ditch all that was done in the week with the previous directors. Garcia is best known for his feature film debut, “Tejano,” which is a micro-budget indie that played a number of festivals before being released on HBO. He’s also an accomplished commercial filmmaker and cinematographer, working with some major brands through his career. However, it’s clear “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” is his biggest project to date.

Obviously, this is all still very fresh news and we have yet to hear a comment from the outgoing directors or the production company, so we will likely learn more in the weeks to come about what happened. But if you’re a horror fan and were already worried about a reboot-quel to the classic franchise, this isn’t the type of news that is going to instill confidence. That being said, a change in directors doesn’t necessarily doom a movie, either. We’ll just have to wait and see.
