'The Art Of Getting By' Soundtrack Features The Shins, Pavement, French Kicks, Leonard Cohen & More

No, This Isn’t The ‘Garden State 2’ Soundtrack

If you don’t recall “The Art of Getting By,” you might remember it by its former title, “Homework,” or by the indie-paint-by-numbers trailer that landed a little while ago. At any rate, looking like a borderline cliché of a Sundance film, the soundtrack details have arrived and it looks like if you’re between the ages of 24-35, this movie is for you.

Boasting a name-check worthy tracklisting — if you were a college radio programmer at least five years ago — the set kicks off with The Shins‘ cover of the Postal Service track “We Will Become Silhouettes.” We get another cover not as good as the original with Mates of State tackling Belle & Sebastian‘s “Sleep the Clock Around.” Remember Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, that Pitchfork-approved band with the guy who had the excruciating singing voice? They’re on here too with their popular tune “The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth.” Old timers will reminisce with Pavement‘s “Here,” while Leonard Cohen drops by as the requisite Old Timer classing up the joint considerably with “Winter Lady.”

The soundtrack gets both a digital and physical release on June 14th, with the film arriving a few days later on June 17th. Check out the full tracklist below and some clips of the songs.
