The Best Horror Sequels Of All Time: ‘Dawn Of The Dead,’ ‘Scream 2’ & More [The Playlist Podcast]

The horror genre is notorious for having some of the worst sequels to ever grace the big screen. Most of the time, these sequels are studio-driven cash-grabs that fail to live up to the original film and quickly dash the hopes of eager fans. But sometimes, just sometimes, a sequel to a horror hit is great. And on this episode of The Playlist Podcast, a George A. Romero classic, an iconic slasher, and maybe Sam Raimi’s most ridiculous film are all discussed as some of the best horror sequels of all time.

In addition to discussing three classic horror sequels, a more recent addition to the horror genre is discussed, as the hosts talk about “V/H/S/94,” which recently was added to the Shudder library. The fourth film in the ‘V/H/S’ franchise, ‘94’ takes the horror anthology series and adds several new vignettes to the collection. While the film isn’t a complete success, the new sequel offers some insight into the highs and lows of horror sequel filmmaking.

But of course, the bulk of the discussion is about the choices for our favorite horror sequels of all time. While at least one of them is a classic from a legendary filmmaker, Romero, the other two might surprise you, as they’re not necessarily the films that get brought up most when it comes to classic frights.
