Just about a week ago, it was revealed that Tilda Swinton had found time during lockdown to film a secret feature with filmmaker Joanna Hogg. Details were scarce at the time, but the idea of these two women combining forces again after “The Souvenir” was a pretty great prospect. It appears that A24 has agreed, as the studio has picked up the distribution rights to the feature, now titled “The Eternal Daughter.”

According to Deadline, A24 is now the distributor of Joanna Hogg’s upcoming mystery thriller, “The Eternal Daughter,” which, as mentioned, stars Tilda Swinton. The film is said to be about a middle-aged woman that takes her elderly mother back to their former home, which is now a vacant motel, where she must confront secrets about her past. The report describes the film as a “ghost story,” so there should be a supernatural element, as well. Joining Swinton in the cast is Joseph Mydell, Carly Davies, and Alfie Sankey-Green.
As alluded to above, “The Eternal Daughter” isn’t the first time that Swinton and Hogg have worked together. In addition to the aforementioned, “The Souvenir,” they are also part of the upcoming sequel “The Souvenir: Part 2,” with both also being released by A24. And it shouldn’t be surprising that Hogg has stuck by Swinton, as the actress is one of the best on the planet and the filmmaker has been known to keep folks around, as we saw with Tom Hiddleston appearing in her previous films, “Exhibition” and “Archipelago.”
It’s unclear when we might see “The Eternal Daughter” arrive in theaters or on streaming. However, with Hogg and Swinton on board, this is clearly a feature that is primed and ready to go for one of the upcoming festivals. Perhaps the newly dated Cannes? We’ll have to wait and see.
