$786.1 million. That’s how much “The Expendables” trilogy made in cinemas worldwide, so if you’re wondering why a television series is now happening, there’s your answer. It looks like the concept of shit-tons of washed up movie stars joining forces is now going be tweaked into washed up TV stars joining forces.
Deadline reports that Fox is working on an event series that will bring together “iconic” TV stars to team up and fight terrorists, but probably on an even cheaper budget than “The Expendables” movies. Greg Coolidge (“Ride Along“), Kirk Ward, and TV vet Shane Brennan (“NCIS,” “CSI: Miami“) will write the show, with the latter acting as showrunner. There’s no word on casting yet, but apparently the project is moving along even as fourth and fifth installments of “The Expendables” are being worked on, along with “The Expendabelles” (GET IT?). If any of those movies happen, we’ll be surprised.
And while we could spend the rest of your time dreamcasting this show and figuring out how many phone calls David Hasselhoff will be making to get a spot, you could get excited for the second season of “Decker,” which returns on March 9th. It’s gonna be epic.
