“The Fans Are Going To Love It”: George Lucas Sort Of Weighs In On ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’

According to Kathleen Kennedy, George Lucas, recent divorcee, “really liked” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” But those are her words — what about the man himself? Well, when asked on the red carpet this weekend at the Kennedy Center Honors where he was being fêted, Lucas gave perfectly Lucas-esque non-answer when asked if he had seen the J.J. Abrams-directed movie.

“I think the fans are going to love it,” he said. “It’s very much the kind of movie they’ve been looking for.”

Of course, nowhere in those words does Lucas say that he liked it. Rather, the fans will dig it, and considering Lucas has previously voiced his frustration about not being able to experiment with “Star Wars,” bemoaned being criticized, and generally speaking has spent a lot of years upsetting fans, maybe ‘The Force Awakens’ isn’t quite the sequel George was looking for.
