For better or worse, the YA franchise format was established with “Twilight,” and the ingredients that always have to be in the mix are: a difficult romance, kids rallying against authority and a kick-ass soundtrack of hipster faves and parent-friendly choices to keep everyone happy. And “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” is certainly keeping up with the latter tradition.
Today, the complete soundtrack details for the film have dropped and it’s a pretty interesting and zany mix of tunes. We already knew Coldplay was going to be on there, but the rest of the set is rounded out by younger skewing acts like the electro r’n’b of The Weeknd, the rising Lorde and Ellie Goulding, dance fave Santigold and footstompers The Lumineers. Meanwhile, Moms and Dads will be puzzled the legendary Patti Smith‘s decision to get in on the action, while The National will bring their unique brand of sadrock. Finally, Christina Aguilera? Who’s that for?
Executive produced by T-Bone Burnett, the soundtrack drops physically and digitally on November 19th with the movie arriving on November 22nd. Tracklisting below.
