For fans of Tim Sutton’s previous films, there’s a lot of questions surrounding his latest feature, “The Last Son.” Mostly, what will the director who has given us some of the most disturbing, humanistic dramas of the past several years going to do with his first Western?
Well, if the trailer for “The Last Son” is any indication, it appears Sutton is able to transition to the Wild West with ease, while still keeping some of his trademark style along the way. “The Last Son” tells the story of a murderous man on the hunt to kill his own kids, which puts him on a collision course with his son, Cal.
The film stars Sam Worthington, Colson Baker (aka Machine Gun Kelly), Thomas Jane, and Heather Graham. As mentioned, “The Last Son” is directed by Tim Sutton, who is a favorite around these parts with quality films like “Donnybrook,” “Funny Face,” and “Dark Night,” amongst others. Interestingly, this Western marks the rare time that Sutton is working from someone else’s script, as “The Last Son” is written by Greg Johnson.
