'The Muppets Mayhem': Disney Developing A Musical Series Based On Jim Henson's Creations

Disney isn’t a company that lets a franchise sit back and gather dust. So, while the company continues to figure out what to do with The Muppets, Disney is ready to launch a new TV series focusing on a specific group of fan-favorite characters.

According to Disney, the studio is bringing back some of The Muppets for a new comedy series, “The Muppets Mayhem.” The series will star Lily Singh and feature a story focused on the long-time Muppet band, The Electric Mayhem.

Here’s the official description of the series:

After 45 years of rockin’ out, The Electric Mayhem goes on an epic musical journey to finally record their first studio album. With the help of a driven young music executive, Nora, the old-school Muppet band comes face to face with the current day music scene as they try to finally go platinum.

The show is, obviously, based on the creations of Jim Henson. “The Muppets Mayhem” is written by Adam F. Goldberg, Bill Barretta, and Jeff Yorkes. Goldberg is probably best known for his work as the creator/writer/producer on the popular sitcom, “The Goldbergs.”

“The Muppets are renowned for quality, creativity, and unrivaled, fun storytelling for the whole family,” said Ayo Davis, president, Disney Branded Television. “We are thrilled to have Adam, Bill, and Jeff at the helm to bring all of these iconic and great new characters to life in fresh and dynamic ways.”

Jonnie Davis, President, ABC Signature added, “Adam F. Goldberg is our resident Muppet enthusiast at Signature and getting to play in the sandbox with Bill, a longtime Muppet performer, as well as these beloved characters, was a dream come true for him, Bill and Jeff. Their take is fresh, fun, musical and of course, hilarious. We couldn’t be happier to be the studio that is helping them get the band back together.”

Disney has recently worked on a couple of Muppets projects, including last year’s “Muppets Haunted Mansion” and “Muppets Now,” both of which appeared on Disney+.

A release date for “The Muppets Mayhem” has yet to be revealed.
