Stephen Merchant is responsible for co-creating a series that would go on to become a massive worldwide hit, “The Office.” Elgin James, on the other hand, is the co-creator of a relatively smaller show, “Mayans MC,” but a series that has garnered quite a passionate fanbase and critical acclaim. Though very different sensibilities, the duo are teaming up for “The Outlaws.”
As seen in the trailer for “The Outlaws,” the series combines the comedy from Merchant with the crime drama of James to create something unlike anything they’ve worked on prior. The series tells the story of a group of small-time criminals who have to work together to complete some community service. But all of that gets thrown out of the window when they also get tangled up in a bit of organized crime.
The series stars Rhianne Barreto, Darren Boyd, Gamba Cole, Jessica Gunning, Clare Perkins, Eleanor Tomlinson, Charles Babalola, Stephen Merchant, and Christopher Walken. As mentioned, the series has some superstars as creators, with Merchant teaming up with James to deliver the series.
“The Outlaws” is expected to arrive on Amazon Prime Video on April 1. You can watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
From Emmy winner Stephen Merchant (The Office UK, Extras) and Elgin James (Mayans M.C.) comes THE OUTLAWS–a contemporary British comedy thriller about a disparate group of lawbreakers thrown together to complete a Community Service sentence. Seven strangers from different walks of life – people who would never normally interact – are forced to work together to renovate a derelict community center. They resent the menial physical labour and they resent each other. But when one of their number gets dragged into a dangerous world of organized crime, they unite in ways none of them thought possible.
