'The Raid' Remake Moves To Netflix With Patrick Hughes Directing; Michael Bay & Gareth Evans Producing

In our various interviews with Frank Grillo, the actor has talked quite a bit about the status of the intended English-language remake of “The Raid.” He even name-dropped Patrick Hughes as the filmmaker everyone wants to see take over the project. Well, apparently it’s official and it’s not just Hughes involved, as we’re getting a who’s-who of action directors working on this ‘Raid’ remake.

According to Deadline, the English-language remake of “The Raid” is moving ahead at Netflix with Patrick Hughes set to direct the film, while the original film’s director Gareth Evans will executive produce alongside Michael Bay. The film is co-written by Hughes and James Beaufort

For those who haven’t seen “The Raid” or its sequel, the Indonesian action film follows the story of a group of police officers who have to make their way through a building, floor by floor, to take down the bad guys. The premise isn’t all that inventive, but the film is primarily known for its innovative and incredibly-choreographed action set pieces.

“We’re incredibly excited about Patrick’s unique vision for this film. It’s a distinctly original take on the material, which promises to pay great respect to the original film while also bringing a fresh approach and perspective that will set its own course in the action genre,” the producers said.

Hughes is probably best known for directing action films such as “The Expendables 3,” “The Hitman’s Bodyguard,” and “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard.” His next film is the action feature, “The Man from Toronto,” which is supposed to arrive this year.

As mentioned, Frank Grillo has talked quite a bit about “The Raid” and the remake. The actor has been long-attached to the English-language remake, but it’s unclear if he’s still set to star in the feature now that it’s moved to Netflix. We’ll have to wait and see.

A release date for the ‘Raid’ remake has yet to be announced.
