"The Rest Is Just Noise": Ivan Reitman Cools Off Talk About Other 'Ghostbusters' Movies

Channing Tatum, 'Ghostbusters' MovieYesterday, word emerged about that long rumored other "Ghostbusters" movie, one that would potentially star Chris Pratt and Channing Tatum, and had the Russo Brothers involvement: it was very much real. Screenwriter Drew Pearce revealed in an interview he had written the Bible or guidelines for the potential movie, and that Pratt and Tatum were in mind as he put together his project, which he clarified would include both men and women. Some sites took this bit of intel to mean that Pratt and Tatum were definitely going to star in a new "Ghostbusters" movie and that it was a done deal. However, nothing could be further from the truth.

It’s a step in the development process, and franchise guide Ivan Reitman pretty much confirms this, saying that, for the moment, all eyes should just stay on next summer’s female-driven reboot.

“There has been a lot of excitement recently about what is happening with the ‘Ghostbusters’ franchise. As the producer of the new ‘Ghostbusters’ film, I feel the need to clarify. There is only one new ‘Ghostbusters’ movie and that is the Paul Feig directed version coming next July, presently filming and going fantastically. The rest is just noise,” he told Uproxx.

I’d wager the Pearce-penned project is one that’s probably being developed but waiting for the right time to maybe get made. If next summer’s movie is a smash hit, and audiences love it, why would Sony or Reitman want to muddy the waters with an entirely different movie? So there you go…until the next "Ghostbusters" rumor comes along…
