You’ve seen Danny McBride and his creative partner, Jody Hill, tackle minor league baseball in “Eastbound & Down.” Then they went on to shine a light on the inner workings of a high school in “Vice Principals.” And now, the duo returns to HBO with another series, this time putting the realm of evangelical ministers in their sights with “The Righteous Gemstones.”
As seen in the new teaser for the series, ‘Gemstones’ follows three generations of pastors for a mega church, as they bicker and argue over everything from how to baptize people to the size of their respective…manhoods. It’s quite obvious that the humor found in the previous series from McBride and Hill is proudly on display in this new HBO comedy series.
As mentioned, ‘Gemstones’ is the brainchild of McBride, who not only stars, but also is the creator, producer, writer, and a director for the comedy. He’s joined by producer Hill, who also directs, as well as David Gordon Green, who is also credited as a producer and director. McBride and Green just recently collaborated on the new “Halloween” reboot-quel that became a massive box office hit in October.
The hilarious cast includes John Goodman, Danny McBride, Edi Patterson, Adam Devine, Cassidy Freeman, Tony Calvero, Tim Baltz, and GregAlan Williams.
“The Righteous Gemstones” premieres on HBO in August.
Here’s the synopsis:
