The Russo Brothers To Direct 'Captain America 2'

nullAnd then there was one….well, actually two. After a shortlist emerged this spring featuring F. Gary Gary, George Nolfi and the somewhat outside choice of Joe and Anthony Russo as contenders to direct the sequel to "Captain America: The First Avenger," it looks like Marvel has made its selection.

THR reports the directing pair is closing a deal to direct the superhero movie, and if they seem like an odd choice, we would agree. The brothers are best known for their producing and directing work on shows like "Community" and "Arrested Development," with their feature film outings so far including "Welcome To Collinwood" and "You, Me and Dupree." And we've heard it was that inexperience that nearly took them out of contention, but they reportedly gave a storyboard presentation that helped seal the deal, and landed them the job above more seasoned helmers with action/blockbuster experience. We'd also guess the duo was probably a bargain for the always cost-conscious Marvel.

It will certainly be a big leap for the pair, but they will have plenty of time to get prepared and make sure it meets the expectations of fans. "Captain America 2" doesn't hit theaters until April 4, 2014.
