With David Gordon Green turning from indie auteur to something of a comedy savant, it seems like it’s creating a ripple effect on those around him. While “Your Highness” is due in theaters this Friday with “The Sitter” following later this year, on December 9th, it looks like the writers of that flim are getting an early Christmas gift.
Deadline, yes them again, on a roll today, says that Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka are set to sell their latest spec script, “Meet The New Boss,” to Chernin Entertainment for a cool six figures. Even more, another quickly rising talent is circling the director’s chair.
James Bobin, writer/director of “Flight Of The Conchords” and “Da Ali G Show” as well as the helmer of the upcoming, big budget “The Muppets” for Disney, is looking to direct the story that centers on “an employee of Capital Properties who goes from one jerk of a boss to another, and the new supervisor is even worse because it’s a robot.” Sounds pretty…high concept, and we’re sure there is an ingredient that log line is missing. But with Bobin at the helm, it sounds like it could be an absurd delight.
Of course, no other details are to be found just yet as it’s likely very early in the game on this one. But we’re pretty sure this beats the hell out of writing “Baywatch: The Movie.” Bonus Credit: Did you know Alessandro Tanaka is the older brother of Sara Tanaka who played Margaret Yang in “Rushmore“?
