'The Strain' Renewed For Season 2, Guillermo del Toro Working On 'Silent Hill' Video Game

Pacific Rim. Guillermo del ToroEven with "Pacific Rim 2" and "Crimson Peak" on the way, Guillermo del Toro is barreling ahead. As busy as he is with movies, the filmmaker has always been involved in other mediums, and this week brought updates on two non-film projects.

Global News reports that the del Toro-produced "The Strain" has been snapped up for a second season by FX, with the production returning to Toronto in November for filming. I haven’t watch the show yet, even though Corey Stoll is the lead character which seems like a grand oversight on my part. So do I need to catch up? Tell me if del Toro’s take on vampires and contagion (that’s what it’s about, right?) is worth digging into.

Meanwhile, the folks at Engadget reveal that del Toro will be involved in the next installment  of the "Silent Hill" video game franchise, "Silent Hills." It’s not yet clear what his role will be exactly, but "The Walking Dead" fans will be happy to note that Norman Reedus will be the lead in the game. And game-favorite Hideo Kojima of "Metal Gear" fame is also involved. No other details yet, but press folks can it add to the list of things to ask del Toro about when he does the next batch of interview rounds….perhaps for the upcoming animated movie "The Book Of Life" which he produced? Probably.
