Timing is everything, and it’s no surprise that on Blizzard‘s big day, where they dropped the first full trailer for “Warcraft,” there was more to unveil. Activision Blizzard revealed the launch of their film and TV division, and the news that one of their biggest titles is getting the cinematic universe treatment. Sigh.

THR reveals that plans are underway to bring “Call Of Duty” to the big screen. The hope is to have it in cinemas by 2018 or 2019, and, naturally, the idea is that it will be the first in a cinematic universe of movies, because everyone else is doing it, so why not? That said, there’s no doubt the game is hugely popular. It has already attracted big talent, with Guy Ritchie directing an ad for the game in 2012, and James Mangold doing one in 2013 that starred Megan Fox, while Michael B. Jordan and Cara Delevigne appear in the most recent promo.
Of course, the bigger question is why Activision Blizzard is trying to run before they walk. Granted, they need to make other gamemakers out there like Ubisoft (the folks behind “Assassin’s Creed“) know that they will won’t be left behind, but let’s see if they can develop a successful game plan to make “Call Of Duty” work.
But coming first will be an animated TV series based on “Skylanders,” with Justin Long, Ashley Tisdale, Jonathan Banks, and Norm Macdonald in the voice cast. It’s currently in production but no word yet on when/where it will launch.
