'This Much I Know To Be True' Trailer: Andrew Dominik's New Nick Cave & Warren Ellis Doc Arrives In May

New Zealand-born Australian filmmaker Andrew Dominik might be on the precipice of a banner year. His long-awaited Marilyn Monroe film starring Ana de Armas, “Blonde,” just received an NC-17 rating from the Film Ratings board, something of a first for Netflix, and should make its world premiere later this year (likely Venice, since Netflix avoids Cannes). But that’s not all the filmmaker has coming this year, as he’s also delivering a Nick Cave doc called “This Much I Know To Be True.”

Fans of Cave and Dominik should be ecstatic at the prospect. Last time the pair teamed up, Dominik made “One More Time with Feeling,” the harrowing doc about the making of the Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds album Skeleton Tree, recorded in the aftermath of the death of Cave’s 15-year-old son Arthur. That film is an emotionally bruising, gorgeous, funereal, religious experience that Dominik shot in 3D.

“This Much I Know To Be True” is a less tragic affair and centers on the musical collaboration between Cave and his right-hand man, Warren Ellis. On top of being a member of the Bad Seeds, Ellis co-writes many film scores with Cave, and their score for Dominik’s “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” is legendary among film score geeks as one of the best ever (we certainly placed it on a list of the best scores of the century so far).

Featuring music from the Bad Seeds’ albums Ghosteen and Carnage, and featuring cinematography by Robbie Ryan, “This Much I Know To Be True” made its world premiere at the recent SXSW Film Festival (read our review here). Trafalgar Releasing has just put out a new trailer and poster along with screening dates here. “This Much I Know To Be True” premieres worldwide on Wednesday, May 11 and you can watch the full first trailer below.
