Actor Chris Evans swaps his Captain America attire for a hotel worker on the Sudanese coast in this gritty thriller set back in the ‘80s. Inspired by the book “Mossad Exodus” by Gad Shimron, Israeli director Gideon Raff brings the story of “The Red Sea Diving Resort” to the screen where Mossad operatives lead an undercover mission that helps smuggle Jewish refugees to Israel in this biographical drama.

The undercover mission is lead by Evans, who plays the charismatic Ari Levinson as well as Michael Kenneth Williams who is the brave local, Kabede Bimro. Both men have prominent roles as they run a hotel on the Red Sea that allows it to function as a hotel during the day, and then as smugglers at night.

Speaking to Eye For Film, Alessandro Nivola, who also stars as Sammy Navon, spoke of the film’s story. “The Israelis sent a group of five Mossad agents down to Sudan to set up a fake hotel on the Sudanese coast,” Nivola continued, “they were driving into these refugee camps and loading up trucks full of Ethiopian Jews and driving them to the coast and loading them onto Israeli Navy Seal boats and sending them back to Jerusalem. And they got 30,000 refugees out of Sudan in like over four years.”

Here is the synopsis in which Raff described the story as “the story of a family, long separated, coming together, an example of how much better the world is when people reach out a helping hand.”

Inspired by remarkable true-life rescue missions, “THE RED SEA DIVING RESORT” is the incredible story of a group of international agents and brave Ethiopians who in the early 80s used a deserted holiday retreat in Sudan as a front to smuggle thousands of refugees to Israel.

Raff in the past has directed and written “Homeland” (2011), “Prisoners Of War” (2009) and the upcoming Netflix series “The Spy” and the movie co-stars Michiel Huisman as Jacob ‘Jake’ Wood, Greg Kinnear as Walton Bowen, Academy-Award winning actor Ben Kingsley as Ethan Levin, Haley Bennett as Rachel Reiter and Chris Chalk as Colonel Abdel Ahmed.
