With this year’s Cannes Film Festival focusing on more foreign-language films, film fans have been expecting September’s Toronto International Film Festival to be chock-full of the highly-anticipated projects that didn’t make it to France. And with the official announcement revealed today, we can confirm that this year’s TIFF is going to be something special.
Films like “Beautiful Boy,” “First Man,” “A Star is Born,” and Steve McQueen’s “Widows” (a world premiere) are sure to be crowd-pleasers. This sci-fi film has been near the top of our most anticipated lists since we heard of its existence, and TIFF is the first festival that has announced the film as part of its lineup. And there’s also highlights like Jason Reitman’s latest “The Front Runner” (starring Hugh Jackman), as well as a new film by Olivier Assayas. TIFF touts some of their stats too: 13 movies by female directors are featured in the line-up including Mia Hansen-Løve, Amma Asante, Nicole Holofcener, Mélanie Laurent, the aforementioned Denis and more
