To Cap Off The Year Of The Movie Dog, Sherlock Holmes' Hound Gets His Own Poster

nullFor a dog-lover, like many of us at The Playlist, 2011 has a been a great year at the films for screen pups. From Uggie in "The Artist" and Snowy in "The Adventures of Tintin" to Cosmo in "Beginners" and Skeletor in "50/50," mutts have been stealing the show left, right and center, finally leaving cats in the dust. While the Academy stubbornly refuse to add a canine category to recognize our four-legged friends, one of the biggest movies of the Christmas season has decided to put a dog at the forefront of its promo material.

Perhaps as a pitch to the dog-lovers market, or perhaps because every human character in the film already has their own character poster, the latest one-sheet for "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" stars Gladstone, the bulldog that's the frequent subject of the great detective's experiments. Does this signal a bumped-up role for man's best friend in the picture? Who knows…

Yeah, so it's pretty baffling, and perhaps the tipping point in terms of character poster madness (it seems like virtually every film these days gives every one of their characters the spotlight at some point), but we're not complaining. "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" hits theaters on December 16th.
