To Sleep, Perchance To Dream: Baz Luhrmann Would Love To Make 'Hamlet' With Leonardo DiCaprio

nullWhen Leonardo DiCaprio first worked with Baz Luhrmann, he was barely old enough to drink. Seventeen years and three Oscar nominations later, DiCaprio’s long-awaited second collaboration with Luhrmann comes out this weekend and it sees them taking on yet another classic work of literature together. As expected, reaction to “The Great Gatsby” thus far has been mixed (here’s our review), but that’s not stopping Luhrmann from dreaming up his next possible project with his leading man.

THR recently asked Luhrmann about any possible future projects he wishes he and Leo could do together. His answer?  “Hamlet. To me, Gatsby is the American Hamlet. What else could we possibly do as a follow-up?” Given the two already have a Shakespeare classic under their belts, perhaps his answer isn’t very surprising. But as we recently discussed on here, Leo has already played his fair share of tragic characters throughout his career, does he really need to play another one? How about some variety, Mr. Luhrmann?

At any rate, you can see Leo in “The Great Gatsby” when it opens this Friday.  In the meantime, what do you think? Would you like to see Leonardo DiCaprio one day play the title character in Baz Luhrmann’s “Hamlet”? Give us your thoughts below.
