To The Wonder ... Woman? Olga Kurylenko Testing For Female Lead In 'Batman Vs. Superman'

To The Wonder, Olga Kurylenko

Rumors have been swirling around the Internet for several days now: Wonder Woman is going to make some kind of appearance, or have a significant role in “Batman Vs. Superman.” Actress and “Thor 2: The Dark World” goddess Jaimie Alexander recently became a woman in question because she revealed that she had been having conversations with WB about the superhero team-up film and knew what the plot was about. Oh course, that speculation led many to assume she’d be playing the Amazonian heroine.

Even more recently, the latest rumor (via Schmoes Knows, yes, that’s what they’re actually called) was that Olga Kurylenko—best known for “Quantum of Solace” and Terrence Malick’s “To The Wonder”—was testing for the role, and it turns out that one is right. Or at least mostly. Variety reports that Kurylenko, along with “Fast & Furious” actress Gal Gadot and “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” co-star Elodie Yung are testing for what is being described as the female lead of the movie, but whether that’s actually Wonder Woman or not is still unknown (sources tell the trade the character could also be Bruce Wayne’s love interest).

Variety puts the kibosh on Alexander. Apparently her obligation to future Marvel movies takes her out of the running since it’s a DC Comics property (guess those non-compete clauses in her contracts mean business). Casting descriptions read “tall, brunette, athletic and exotic” which sure sounds a hell of a lot like Wonder Woman. Personally, we think Batman and Superman is enough and they should save Wonder Woman for another film, but who knows what’s going on now that David S. Goyer and Zack Snyder are in charge and Christopher Nolan is gone, doing his own movies. If Kurylenko did score the role, she would at least have some familiarity on set having already worked intimately with Ben Affleck in the aforementioned Malick indie.

Those who preferred the Nolan-esque tinge-of-realism “Man of Steel” (or as realistic as possible given the circumstances) probably aren’t going to see that in further films if they’re crowding pictures with heroes, but then again, who knows (though Variety also says The Flash is expected to make a cameo and he’s a character that’s been rumored to have his own solo film too). Do you want to see Wonder Woman in the untitled Batman and Superman film and if so, do you have a fave choice among the three ladies? “Batman vs. Superman” (or whatever it will eventually be titled) starring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill opens worldwide on July 17, 2015.
