A couple of small morsels from some very big comic book movies coming up, so strap in and get ready to take these latest updates out of the protective mylar bag…
First up, while Anna Paquin‘s Rogue was the first person to be cut from what must be a very tricky edit for director Bryan Singer as he gears up “X-Men: Days Of Future Past,” don’t think for a moment that there won’t be a bonanza of mutants in the flick. Where one leaves, another enters as MTV reveals that the character of Toad will be returning to the fold. It will be the first appearance of the character since “X-Men” where he was played by Ray Park, but he wasn’t seen in the subsequent films.
This time around it’s Evan Jonigkeit in the part, playing a younger version of the character. Perhaps to help set up the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants? We’ll see, and while we’ll have to wait for more details, Jonigkeit does tease the mutant may have a new look. “The aesthetics of the character are much different, and I’m not really allowed to say a whole lot more than that,” he said. “It’s darker. I would say it’s a darker tone.”
Meanwhile, Edgar Wright kicked off the New Year by posting to his blog an image from the animated series “Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” episode “To Steal an Ant-Man.” And what makes that one so special? As SuperHeroHype points out it’s based on “Marvel Premiere #47,” in which Scott Lang steals Hank Pym’s Ant-Man gear, and does some bad guy type stuff with it. Now, do you remember that Marvel honcho described “Ant-Man” as “heist movie“? Hmm….
Stuff to think about for the moment. “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” lands on May 23rd, “Ant-Man” steals on July 31, 2015. Until then, you can watch the full “To Steal An Ant-Man” episode below.
