Todd Phillips Says 'Project X' Not In 3D, Won't Have Voice Over & Not Really All That Mysterious

Remember those details yesterday from FirstShowing’s “industry source” that revealed the Todd Phillips and Joel Silver produced low-budget R-rated comedy to be a cinema-vérité party movie in 3D featuring a voice over lead character? Well, you can scratch some of those details off the list.

Collider spoke with Phillips himself, and he said that the rumors of the film being in 3D and featuring a voice over are “absolutely not true.” He does say that the film has “a new and interesting approach” to the genre and the cinema-vérité style would certainly bear that out, but of course that remains to be seen.

Phillips also said about the open casting call, that some thought might be an elaborate stunt or PR for the film, is the real deal but that producers will also use traditional casting methods for the film as well. The key is that they want to get some fresh faces into the picture.

Finally, as to the supposed “secrecy” surrounding the project, Phillips says that someone saw the title page of the unnamed comedy “Project X” as it circled round the office and assumed it was some kind of top secret thing. Phillips says that while they aren’t sending the script out, its not in an effort to keep things under lock and key, but more to prevent jokes from ending up on TV before the film hits theaters.

Originally slated to film in June, the project is now looking at a July or August shoot but is contingent on finding the right cast. We’re definitely curious about this one, but it appears that whatever rumors are out there about the film, are most likely false.
