It seems everyone and no one knows who is going to be the next James Bond. Yesterday, the word was that Bond producers had meetings with Jamie Bell for the role, but that it might all be for nothing, since Daniel Craig is technically signed for another movie, and that negotiations with him (even though he’d rather be audited than play Bond again) might not even begin until later this year, when there’s a clearer creative direction for the next film. But now there’s another twist.

According to Birth Movies Death, the internet’s top choice (aside from Idris Elba) and favorite boyfriend (aside from Idris Elba), Tom Hiddleston, is in advanced talks to play James Bond (squee!). The actor has made it clear in interviews he’d be keen for the role, and fans and Hiddleston devotees would faint if it were to happen, but no offer has formally been made. However, it is ironic that many were complaining that the franchise was “going young” by possibly maybe casting the 30-year-old Bell, but that the 35-year-old Hiddleston is apparently just right.
Anyway, we’ll see if this pans out, but my guess is that we’re going to see a lot more names rumored/confirmed/denied/speculated before anything is official. “Spectre” was only released last year, 007 movies come in 3-4 year cycles, and I would really be surprised if anything is locked down this far in advance. But who knows? Certainly, the chatter is building, and perhaps the Bond producers finally want to end the madness of Craig Or Not Craig once and for all.
