What’s going to happen to the live-action ‘Spider-Man’ film franchise after “Spider-Man: No Way Home?” Tom Holland seems unsure, but producer Amy Pascal wants to keep having the actor appear as Peter Parker for years to come, hinting that a new trilogy is on the way. However, there’s way more to the whole situation than just hopes, dreams, and good intentions, right? No matter what Pascal and/or Holland would like to see happen, Sony has to make a deal with Disney first, since Marvel Studios is a primary reason the new ‘Spider-Man’ franchise is such a success. And according to a new report, that deal might actually already be happening.

A new report from Puck asserts that the development of a new Marvel Studios-produced ‘Spider-Man’ film with Tom Holland starring has already quietly begun. This would lead one to believe that there won’t be a long, drawn-out negotiation between Sony and Disney. Instead, some sort of deal would have already been made, leading to the development of a new Spidey film before the current one “Spider-Man: No Way Home” is even released.
Interestingly, the report doesn’t specifically say it’s a ‘Spider-Man’ film, just that it’s a “fourth Marvel-produced movie that will star Tom Holland.” Putting on our tinfoil hats for a second, perhaps this means Sony is currently working on a ‘Spider-Man’ spinoff film with Tom Holland that isn’t the start of a new trilogy? What if it’s the much-anticipated crossover between the “Venom” and “Spider-Man” franchises hinted at the end of ‘Let There Be Carnage?’ Maybe, just maybe, before Tom Holland signs a big new contract with Sony for multiple films, he’s going to work on a quick Venom-filled detour first? Again, pure speculation with absolutely no sources to back it up. Just a nerd thinking out loud.

Regardless, it would appear that there won’t be the “will they or won’t they?” drama that popped up at the end of the last Sony/Disney go-round, where we weren’t sure if the two studios would come to an agreement. Clearly, if this report is correct, the studios are much more symbiotic (not a ‘Venom’ pun, promise) than we expected. If so, maybe we’ll hear more news about the next ‘Spider-Man’ adventure sooner than we anticipate?
“Spider-Man: No Way Home” is set to hit theaters on December 17.
