'Uncharted': Tom Holland Shares First Look At Nathan Drake From Ruben Fleischer's Upcoming Film

Almost exactly 10 years ago, we reported that Mark Wahlberg was up for the lead role of Nathan Drake in David O. Russell’sUncharted” film. At the time, this film adaptation of the popular video game franchise was a no-brainer, as people absolutely adore the source material and the story feels just enough like “Indiana Jones” that it could fill a void left by that Spielberg franchise. But the film was never made. And over the last decade, numerous stars were attached, directors came and went, and release dates continue to be delayed. But here, on October 22, 2020, in a year filled with terrible crises, against all odds we are getting a first look at Tom Holland as Nathan Drake from the set of “Uncharted.”

Yes, fans, it’s really happening. After a decade of false starts, “Uncharted” is in the middle of production with Mark Wahlberg attached, though as a supporting player, and Holland suiting up as adventurer Nathan Drake. No, David O. Russell isn’t still directing. Instead, that duty rests on
Ruben Fleischer, coming off his hit film, “Venom.”

And guess what? Tom Holland definitely looks the part of a young Nathan “Nate” Drake. So, at least you can score that an early win for a film production that is desperately hoping that the decade of hype will be worth it, and the legion of video game fans that have been waiting patiently for “Uncharted” will embrace the adaptation with open arms. As we know, video game adaptations haven’t done well creatively or financially previously, with most being immediately written off by diehard fans that would rather just play out the story on their consoles.

That said, Holland is one of the biggest names in Hollywood right now, thanks to his role in the MCU as Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man. And say what you will about “Venom,” the film does entertain and Fleischer has proven to be a filmmaker that is all about making sure audiences have fun while watching his films. So, there’s little worry that “Uncharted” will be some sort of self-serious snoozefest. Let’s just all hope “Uncharted” is the “Indiana Jones”-esque swashbuckling adventure we’ve been waiting for.
