Tom Morello Playing Guitar On 'Iron Man 2' Score

Tom Morello has joined composer John Debney in scoring for Jon Favreau’s “Iron Man 2.”

The Rage Against The Machine guitarist had a short cameo in the first film and contributed some guitar work to the score as was well. so it’s no major surprise he’ll be doing the same for the sequel. Don’t get too excited though, it’s almost certainly not going to be a composing credit (he didn’t get one on “Iron Man”) and Morello is simply playing the guitar tracks for the music Debney composes.

Debney’s Twitter discusses some of tracks already being developed including “Ivan Theme” (“Very large orchestra on top of Morello laden tracks”), “The Race,” (“Whiplash’s new theme”) and of course “Ironman’s Theme” (and of course Ivan/Whiplash is Mickey Rourke’s character). The two musicians are currently at the famous Abbey Road studios working on the score.

Debney returns to the Favreau fold after Ramin Djawadi stepped in to score “Iron Man.” Debney has scored, Favreau’s “Elf,” “Zathura: A Space Adventure” and now “Iron Man 2.” Don’t be surprised if he’s announced as the composer for “Cowboys & Aliens.” “Iron Man 2” won’t just have the rock connection in Morello, it’ll also have an AC/DC greatest hits tie-in album which is a bit embarrassing and let’s not speak of it too much.
