Tom Sturridge Joins Walter Salles' Adaptation Of Jack Kerouac's 'On The Road'

Little known British actor and Robert Pattinson BFF Tom Sturridge has been added to the cast of Walter Salles’ adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s iconic novel “On The Road.”

The actor joins the talented group of Kirsten Dunst, Kristen Stewart, Viggo Mortensen and Amy Adams who’ll all play a variety of supporting characters from the defining Beat Generation work with Sam Riley and Garrett Hedlund playing leads Sal Paradise and Dean Moriarty, surrogates for Kerouac and Neal Cassady respectively, who journey across the North American landscape in pursuit of self-knowledge and experience.

Salles will direct from a script by his “Motorcycle Diaries” writer José Rivera for the project produced by Francis Ford Coppola and Rebecca Yeldham with backing from French shingle MK2, the U.K.’s Film4 and Brazil’s Videofilmes.

Shooting is currently taking place in Montreal before moving onto New Orleans and New Mexico for what is already shaping as one of 2011 most anticipated releases. [GossipCop]
