Toni Collette To Star Opposite Colin Firth In Antonio Campos' 'The Staircase' HBO Series

The idea of Antonio Campos making a limited series based on the famous true crime story that was detailed in “The Staircase” is enough to get anyone excited. The recent addition of Colin Firth as the star sent me over the moon. But folks, I’m not sure I can handle the fact that Toni Collette is now on board as well.

According to Variety, Toni Collette has joined the cast of “The Staircase” series that is coming to HBO from director Antonio Campos. In the series, Colette will play Kathleen Peterson, the wife of author Michael Peterson. “The Staircase” tells the story of the mysterious death of Kathleen, who is purported to have taken a nasty spill down the stairs and died. But when police look further into it, they see that perhaps that’s not actually the case.

Collette is one of the best actresses working today, hands down. Of course, she was nominated for an Oscar for her role in 1999’s “Sixth Sense,” but in the past 20 years, she’s been in a number of incredible films and TV series. Recently, she has starred in the acclaimed Netflix series, “Unbelievable,” as well as the box office hit, “Knives Out.” She also turned in what might be the best performance of her career in 2018’s “Hereditary.”

Obviously, Collettes’ names being attached to any project is worthy of attention, but the fact that she’ll star opposite Firth in the series is just icing on the cake. And Campos, who directed “The Devil All the Time” and “Christine,” as well as episodes of the underrated TV series, “The Sinner,” is just the perfect person to bring this story to life.

A release date for “The Staircase” has yet to be announced.
