'Toni Erdmann' Tops Film Comment's Best Films Of 2016

The year-end love keeps coming for “Toni Erdmann.” Maren Ade‘s breakout film topped best of lists from Cahiers du Cinema and Sight & Sound, and recently swept the European Film Awards, and was nominated for Best Foreign Film at the Golden Globes. And now the film has another honor as 2016 winds down.

Film Comment has released their Best Of 2016, and yep, “Toni Erdmann” has come out on top. The list foreign film and arthouse leaning publication is another reminder of the wealth of great movies we got over the past twelve months including “Moonlight,” “Manchester By The Sea,” “Paterson,” “The Lobster” and “Love & Friendship” (which I personally think deserves a lot more kudos; it’s hilarious and terrific stuff from Whit Stillman). And the group has also shined a light on great films on the festival circuit that still need U.S. distribution (how does Cristi Puiu‘s new film not have stateside home?).
